Girls’ Hockey Senior Night

1-26-13-18

[We hated missing senior night, but as it happened on January 26 the supervisor and I were in Boston freezing our tukhuses off!  So thanks to fellow Super Fans for providing the materials for this posting – the staff photographer changed venues to cover hockey and took all the photos herein, and Bob “Weakie” Annen dusted off his old Sony video camera to shoot the following introductory video.  At some point I hope to include a copy of the program, as I’m sure other staff members collected one for me?   😉 ]

1-26-13-1

[Senior Anna Carlsen (31).  One thing we’ve learned over the years is that it’s hard to get good photos when the only lighting is a spot light.  A recommendation to all that in the future the arena lights be turned up max for the photo ops!]

1-26-13-3

[Senior Madi Houska (12)]

And here’s that aforementioned program:

hockeyseniors'13-1

hockeyseniors'13-2

hockeyseniors'13-3

hockeyseniors'13-4

1-26-13-5

[Pre-introductions milling around.]

1-26-13-6

[Senior Sara Schmidt (27), senior Shanee’ Herd (40), freshman Amy Jost (33)]

1-26-13-7

[Amy, sophomore Bailey Serum (35), senior Shelby Iverson (38), junior Rachel Drew (4), junior Taylor Ellingson (24), and Anna]

1-26-13-8

[Rachel, Taylor, Anna, senior Becca Illlies (37), sophomore Nicole Bartels (23), sophomore Marisa Larson (25)]

1-26-13-9

[Joe Crouse, Andy Shriver, Brittin Boike]

1-26-13-10

[Nicole, Marisa, junior Melissa Drown (6), Madi]

1-26-13-11

[Madi.  See what a difference full lighting makes?  😉 ]

1-26-13-12

[Sara]

1-26-13-13

[Becca]

1-26-13-14

[Shanee’]

1-26-13-15

[The six seniors]

1-26-13-16-1

[Super Fans Dusty Johnson and Roger Riley sang the National Anthem – and remain undefeated.  BTW, we were playing Bemidji and won 4 – 2 in what all the fans reported was just a terrific game, well played by both teams!  🙂 ]

1-26-13-17

[I have asked hockey moms about what is being said in these pre-game huddles.  Apparently it is only disclosed on a need-to-know basis.]

1-26-13-19

[Well, whatever was said this time made Bailey laugh . . . but then goalies will laugh at anything.]

1-26-13-20

[Madi, as the giant Lumberjacks look on from their bench.]

1-26-13-21-1

[Mel, who I think has rather quietly has had a terrific year.]

1-26-13-22

[Becca, with Shelby are the dynamic duo.]

1-26-13-23

[Here’s that size thing again as Shelby is dwarfed by a towering Lumberjack (OK, OK, it’s just a matter of perspective here).  😉 ]

1-26-13-24

[Shelby and Shanee’ – looks like a power play face-off in the zone.]

1-26-13-25

[Let the “no contact” in girls’ hockey begin!  I wouldn’t be surprised if even sometimes  salty language may be exchanged?]

1-26-13-26

[Face-offs in the zone are good.]

1-26-13-27

[And Shelby again.]

1-26-13-28

[At the end of one, we have no score.]

1-26-13-29

[“The Voice” is in the booth with Lumberjack reporters?]

1-26-13-30

[The SBA line of Shelby, Becca, and Anna.]

1-26-13-32

[Up close and personal.]

1-26-13-33

[Shelby on the go, and below.]

1-26-13-34-1

1-26-13-35

[Aaacckkkk!  Get it out of our end!]

1-26-13-36

[And here comes Madi.]

1-26-13-37

[Cards are buzzing the net with Mel in position.]

1-26-13-38-1

[And here comes Madi again.]

1-26-13-39

[Into the zone.]

1-26-13-40

[Possibly Lauren Niska (21), and below?]

1-26-13-41

1-26-13-42-1

[Shelby’s loose!]

1-26-13-43

[In on goal!]

1-26-13-44

[Ohhhhhhh!]

1-26-13-45-1

[Now Madi’s loose!]

1-26-13-46

[Setting it up!]

[1-26-13-47

[The shot!]

1-26-13-48

[SCORE!  Great sequence by the staff photographer!]

1-26-13-49

[Yay!]

1-26-13-50

[Yay!  Yay!]

1-26-13-51

[Yay!  Yay!  Yay!]

1-26-13-52

[What could be more fun than celebrating a goal?]

1-26-13-53-1

[And then I noticed Madi wasn’t on the ice during this goal?  So the goal obviously came later and our on-site stringer reported the goal by Taylor with an assist to Shanee’!]

1-26-13-54

[Let’s start again with the SBA line.]

1-26-13-55

[There’s Taylor.]

1-26-13-56

[And Shanee’.]

1-26-13-57

[Becca and McKenzie Revering (29), 8th-grade, making a move.]

1-26-13-58

[GOOOOAAAAALLLLLLL!]

1-26-13-58-1

[Becca, assisted by Shelby and McKenzie.]

1-26-13-59

[Yay!]

1-26-13-60-1

[Hugs all around!]

1-26-13-61

[Coming in again with Mel and Madi.]

1-26-13-62

[It’s a Cardinal jail break!!  🙂 ]

1-26-13-63-1

[Hanah Hansen (11), freshman, from the point.]

1-26-13-64

[Cards are up 2 after two.]

1-26-13-65

[Between the 2nd and 3rd periods, Shelby’s dad supervises the puck shoot.]

1-26-13-66

[Shelby’s dad hands a stick to Shelby’s mom.  It’s a couples thing.]

1-26-13-67

[It appears as if the staff photographer gave her a shout out.  😉 ]

1-26-13-68

[Missy is appropriately clad in Cardinal red and black.]

1-26-13-69

[She readies to shoot – a righty like her daugher.]

1-26-13-70

[Just a tad wide left.]

1-26-13-71

[Shanee’s mom, and arena scorekeeper, takes a crack at it.]

1-26-13-72

[Marnee’s miss almost identical to Missy’s.]

1-26-13-73

[Finally, we have Becca’s mom – better known as someone who works out at the Y at the same time the Fat Boys Walking Club is in action.]

1-26-13-74

[Sara was a basketball player and is dumfounded that all her daughters went into hockey!  😉 ]

1-26-13-75

[Nevertheless, she displays good shooting form.]

1-26-13-76

[Right through a $25.00 hole!  Her eldest daugher, Claire, a Cardinal alum and now a Cobber at Concordia, also made a $25.00 shot when she was home for the holidays marking the first time, we believe, that family members scored in the same year.]

1-26-13-77

[Then the daughters got back into action again . . .]

1-26-13-78

[As we begin the final period.]

1-26-13-79-1

[Shanee’ controls.]

1-26-13-80

[GOOOOAAAALLLL!  Mel unassisted!]

1-26-13-81

1-26-13-82

[Shelby has it.]

1-26-13-83

[GOOOAAAAALLLLLL!]

1-26-13-84

[Shelby unassisted!]

1-26-13-85

[Yay again for our side!]

1-26-13-86

[To be the final score.]

1-26-13-87

[An attempt at an empty-netter obviously came up empty.  😉 ]

1-26-13-88

[We won!]

1-26-13-89

[Celebrate.  A good win against a good team.]

Thanks again to the staff for your superior coverage.  AND MANY THANKS TO ALL THE SENIORS FOR ALL THE GREAT TIMES YOU HAVE GIVEN US!  🙂

About tomobert63

The Journey Begins Thanks for joining me! This is the follow-up to the original, “alexandriacardinals.wordpress.com,” which overwhelmed the system’s ability to handle it any more. Thus, this is “Part 2.” As the original was initially described: 10-26-07-4 “It all began in a 5,000 watt radio station in Fresno, California” . . . wait a minute, that was Ted Baxter on the Mary Tyler Moore Show! Let’s see . . . oh yeah, it all began in 2003 when retirees, i.e., old people, in Alexandria, Minnesota, who had no desire to become snow birds, went looking for mid-winter entertainment here in the frozen tundra of West Central Minnesota. We discovered girls’ high school hockey, fell in love immediately, and it remains our favorite spectator sport to this day. Initially, and for several years, reports on these games were e-mailed to those who were actually snowbirds but wanted to keep abreast of things “back home.” It was ultimately decided a blog would be more efficient, and it evolved into a personal diary of many things that attracts tens of readers on occasion. It remains a source of personal mental therapy and has yet to elicit any lawsuits. ~ The Editor, May 9, 2014 p.s. The photo border around the blog is the Cardinal girls’ hockey team after just beating Breck for the state championship in 2008. It’s of the all-tournament team. The visible Breck player on the left is Milica McMillen, then an 8th-grader – she is now an All-American for the Gophers. The Roseau player in the stocking cap I believe is Mary Loken, who went on to play for UND; and the Cardinal player on the right, No. 3, is Abby Williams, the player we blame most for making us girls’ hockey fans who went on to play for Bemidji State. *********************************************************************************** Photos contained herein are available for personal use. All you have to do is double click on any of the photos and they will become full screen size. You can then save them into your personal “My Pictures” file. They make lovely parting or hostess gifts, or holiday gifts for such as Uncle Ernie who wants to see how his grand niece is doing on the hockey team. If any are sold for personal profit, however, to, for example, the Audubon Society, National Geographic, Sven’s Home Workshop Monthly, Curling By The Numbers, or the World Wrestling Federation, I only request that you make a donation to the charitable organization of your choice. You have two hours and fifteen minutes. Pencils ready? Begin! **********************************************************************************
