. . . of lake effect snow off beautiful Lake Darling?

12-9-12-17

The supervisor loves to shovel snow – but that’s not the reason for this story . . .

While we have to recognize the demise of the Twinkie . . .

LET’S HAVE SOME FUN!

Our teams have been on the road now for a long, long time.  In lieu of any new coverage, we are delighted to present, courtesy of the staff photographer, THE VIEW FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COURT – his coverage of the girls’ basketball home opener against Little Falls:

11-28-12-1

[As you may recall, junior guard Karly Betterman.]

11-28-12-2

[Senior guard Jess Syvrud]

11-28-12-3

[Jess]

11-28-12-4

[Senior forward Dani Strater]

11-28-12-5

[Setting a play in the offensive zone.  Sarah Bruzek’s parents look on from the back row.]

11-28-12-6

[Karly, Amanda C (5), and the blue garbage can apply all out pressure.  Cardinals of the future occupy the first row, the Holm family the 4th.]

11-28-12-7

[Heard they were giving away free lutefisk bites . . .]

11-28-12-8

[Karly – good knee bend, good finger placement on the ball, probably went in.]

11-28-12-9

[Dani lays one . . . in?]

11-28-12-10

[Amanda C – as I recall, missed the 1st, made the 2nd.]

11-28-12-10-1

11-28-12-11-1

[Amanda C credits much of her success to occasionally grazing the scorer’s table for a little popcorn.]

11-28-12-12

[Ms. Betterman]

11-28-12-13

[Ms. Christianson.  Nicely done by the staff photographer – focused on Amanda to the exclusion of all around her!  😉 ]

11-28-12-14-1

[Ms. Strater]

11-28-12-15

[Kohler]

11-28-12-16

[Junior Sarah Bruzek]

11-28-12-18

[Ooops, cut her dad’s head off!]

11-28-12-19

[Junior forward/center Amanda G.  Cardinal dad from days of yore lurks just inside the door.]

11-28-12-33

[Amanda G calls for the ball in the post.]

11-28-12-34

[Amanda C takes it to the hole . . . as they say.]

11-28-12-35

[Junior forward Samantha Frederick]

11-28-12-37

[Jaylen inbounds to Karly.]

11-28-12-38

11-28-12-39

[Junior forward Alyssa Freiderich]

11-28-12-40

[Samantha, above and below.]

11-28-12-41

[Cardinal defenders are taught early on to ululate.]

11-28-12-42

[Sophomore guard Gretchen Revering – I have to ask the class, is she hockey player McKenzie’s sister?]

11-28-12-43

[Sophomore forward Halley Score (a great last name for a basketball player, eh?)]

11-28-12-44

[Gretchen.  My sister’s name is Gretchen.  We call her Toody.]

11-28-12-45

[Coaches Kohler and Engebretson]

11-28-12-46

[What the boys’ team was waiting for – THE KIDS replacing the kids.  Kohler’s 8th-grade daughter, Kendall, makes her varsity debut.]

11-28-12-47

[No doubt getting helpful pointers?]

11-28-12-48

[Remained calm despite the hubbub going on around her.  🙂 ]

11-28-12-49

[And Coach Hatlestad’s 8th-grade daughter, Macy, also made her varsity debut.]

11-28-12-50

[The next and future point guard?]

11-28-12-51

[Kendall on D.]

11-28-12-55

And I believe “Tavelin’ Man” Rog has wrapped up his Sequoia trip:

rogcrystalcave

[Crystal Cave]

roggeneralsherman

[General Sherman.  I always wanted to have a sequoia named after me . . . well, maybe a hackberry.]

rogharttreesequoia

[Hart Trees]

rogmororockview

[Moro Rock view]

rogsugarbowlgrovesequoia

[Sugar Bowl Grove]

12-7-12-1

12-6-12-1

12-6-12-4

12-6-12-5

12-6-12-6

About tomobert63

The Journey Begins Thanks for joining me! This is the follow-up to the original, “alexandriacardinals.wordpress.com,” which overwhelmed the system’s ability to handle it any more. Thus, this is “Part 2.” As the original was initially described: 10-26-07-4 “It all began in a 5,000 watt radio station in Fresno, California” . . . wait a minute, that was Ted Baxter on the Mary Tyler Moore Show! Let’s see . . . oh yeah, it all began in 2003 when retirees, i.e., old people, in Alexandria, Minnesota, who had no desire to become snow birds, went looking for mid-winter entertainment here in the frozen tundra of West Central Minnesota. We discovered girls’ high school hockey, fell in love immediately, and it remains our favorite spectator sport to this day. Initially, and for several years, reports on these games were e-mailed to those who were actually snowbirds but wanted to keep abreast of things “back home.” It was ultimately decided a blog would be more efficient, and it evolved into a personal diary of many things that attracts tens of readers on occasion. It remains a source of personal mental therapy and has yet to elicit any lawsuits. ~ The Editor, May 9, 2014 p.s. The photo border around the blog is the Cardinal girls’ hockey team after just beating Breck for the state championship in 2008. It’s of the all-tournament team. The visible Breck player on the left is Milica McMillen, then an 8th-grader – she is now an All-American for the Gophers. The Roseau player in the stocking cap I believe is Mary Loken, who went on to play for UND; and the Cardinal player on the right, No. 3, is Abby Williams, the player we blame most for making us girls’ hockey fans who went on to play for Bemidji State. *********************************************************************************** Photos contained herein are available for personal use. All you have to do is double click on any of the photos and they will become full screen size. You can then save them into your personal “My Pictures” file. They make lovely parting or hostess gifts, or holiday gifts for such as Uncle Ernie who wants to see how his grand niece is doing on the hockey team. If any are sold for personal profit, however, to, for example, the Audubon Society, National Geographic, Sven’s Home Workshop Monthly, Curling By The Numbers, or the World Wrestling Federation, I only request that you make a donation to the charitable organization of your choice. You have two hours and fifteen minutes. Pencils ready? Begin! **********************************************************************************
