* Confessing that’s an old homecoming slogan from back in the day.
December 15
[The JVers did their thing. It was fun to watch the 3rd period when I believe we got 4 goals.]
[Two of my favorites: The Amazing Mr. Ripley on camera; and McKenzie Revering, senior on injured reserve, who is now an assistant bench coach while on the mend . . . ]
[Here Rev opines to head coach Molly Arola a winning strategy for beating the Otters.]
[Cardinal captain, senior goalie Sarah Finley , chats it up with the constabulary and the Otter hierarchy.]
[Dress right, dress!]
[And the opening kickoff: Junior Kristin Trosvig (15), junior Josie Minnerath (6), and sophomore McKenna Ellingson (24).]
[It went that-a-way.]
[McKenna swoops into the Otter zone, passport not necessary.]
[Senior Ashten Oberg (3) and junior Kaia Illies (13) attempt to ward off the Otter hoards.]
[Kristin scored a short-handed goal to tie the game at one in the 1st period . . .]
[And then shows her true magic by somehow changing to No. 14 (freshman Mayson Toft) while skating to the bench?]
[The Otters goalie’s mom was sitting right in front of us, so I had to mind my P’s and Q’s.]
[Josie and sophomore Alexis Heckert (20) applying pressure.]
[Cardinals of the future entertained between periods . . . ]
[And then get high (well, maybe low) fives from their varsity idols.]
[They are the Whitecaps.]
[8th-grader Anna Doherty (7) performs a U-turn.]
[McKenna retied the game 2 – 2 after a power play goal by the Otters.]
[The aforementioned Ms. Toft]
[Where’d everybody go?]
[Alexis on the draw, junior Calley Richardson (19) on point.]
[Kristin and Calley on the attack . . .]
[And crowding the goal.]
[And now Alexis as the goalie clutches another shot.]
[Junior defense Taylor Breitkreutz (34)]
[Our first look at 8th-grader Marki Oberg (10). With two Obergs on the team, how long will it be before I call them Oberts?]
[Taylor with Fergus player No. 6 – I know that because it’s the number on her jersey.]
[Senior Megan Pesta (8) screens the goalie.]
[GOOAAAAALLLLL! Alexis assisted by Megan. To end the suspense, 3 – 2 would be the final score for the Cards.]
[Remember . . . girls hockey is a non-contact sport.]
[Something we’ve seen often so far, and will likely for the rest of the year – Kristin on a breakaway.]
[But a good stop by the now mask-less goalie.]
[After two . . . ]
[Megan and Alexis working for a 2nd goal as a pair.]
[And now joined by friends.]
[Alexis takes on three Otters.]
[Anna and Megan]
[Ashton, Kaia, and Marki]
[McKenna on the doorstep.]
[And the final, but don’t believe your lyin’ eyes. The official shot count was 37 – 24?]
