[Gopher All Americans look down upon us – several are still playing.]

2-18-16-4 - Copy

[Well, we’re here, ladies – let’s make the best of it.]

[Dinkytown options: Erbert & Gerbert’s or Five Guys Burgers and Fries?]

2-18-16-9 - Copy

[Mmmmmm, burrrrrr -gerrrrrr!]

2-18-16-10 - Copy

[Facing the Northfield Raiders in their 2nd ever state tournament game.  They’re in maroon and gold – home ice advantage at Ridder?  Come to think of it, their school song is the Minnesota Rouser.]

2-18-16-11 - Copy

[McKenna Ellingson (24) chases a Raider into a corner; Hanah Hansen (11) stands guard.]

2-18-16-12 - Copy

[McKenna: Sometimes the rink can seem really lonely?]

2-18-16-13 - Copy

[Kristin Trosvig (15)]

2-18-16-14 - Copy

[Puck: Sometimes the rink can seem really lonely?]

2-18-16-15 - Copy

[Just a guess, but the puck must be somewhere off to the left.]

2-18-16-16 - Copy

2-18-16-17 - Copy

[Mari Wosepka (18) circles in looking for the elusive black disc.]

2-18-16-18 - Copy

2-18-16-19 - Copy

[Oy!]

2-18-16-20 - Copy

[Hanah crashes the net just in time to see Calley Richardson’s (7) first ever varsity goal!  It’s nice to know the puck does fit in the net.]

2-18-16-21 - Copy

2-18-16-22 - Copy

[And here we come again . . . ]

2-18-16-23 - Copy

[Stop it!  It’s getting away!]

2-18-16-24 - Copy

[McKenzie Revering (29) makes a kick stop . . . ]

2-18-16-25 - Copy

[Setting up a shot from the point.]

2-18-16-26 - Copy

[Something about the Ridder scoreboard – it’s really hard to see the numbers (apparently without totally changing your camera settings).  This must show the Cards ahead 1 – 0 after one.]

2-18-16-27 - Copy

[A familiar sight in the first two games.  But we just couldn’t cash them in.  Tough goalies when you get to this level.  Here McKenna in alone with Rev as back up – but no goal.]

2-18-16-29 - Copy

2-18-16-30 - Copy

[Good run, though.]

2-18-16-31 - Copy

[Hey, has anyone seen the puck?]

2-18-16-32 - Copy

2-18-16-33 - Copy

[Another offensive push, with Hanah and Lauren Niska (21).]

2-18-16-34 - Copy

2-18-16-35 - Copy

[Oooohhhhhhhhhhh!]

2-18-16-36 - Copy

2-18-16-37 - Copy

[I’d like to report a multi-player pile up at the east goal.]

2-18-16-38 - Copy

2-18-16-39 - Copy

[Here comes Rev and McKenna again.]

2-18-16-40 - Copy

2-18-16-41 - Copy

[And another goal pile-up.  Hello, State Farm?]

2-18-16-42 - Copy

[Keep it in!]

2-18-16-43 - Copy

[McKenna and Kristin hanging around the goal.  McKenna’s been there a lot – hope she doesn’t get picked up for loitering?]

2-18-16-44 - Copy

2-18-16-44-1 - Copy

[Traffic congestion around the goal again.]

2-18-16-45 - Copy

2-18-16-46 - Copy

[Despite more good chances, still 1 – 0 after two.]

2-18-16-47 - Copy

[Lauren defending the point.]

2-18-16-48 - Copy

[We have the Raider goalie’s full attention.  Only a sophomore, she played well.]

2-18-16-49 - Copy

2-18-16-50 - Copy

[More pressure on the Raiders.]

2-18-16-51 - Copy

2-18-16-52 - Copy

[Calley looking for another scoring opportunity.]

2-18-16-53 - Copy

2-18-16-54 - Copy

[Finally, GOOOAAALLLLL!  McKenzie Revering and Lauren Niska have been paired together on defense for four years now – they are definitely the core, with goalie Amy Jost, around which the team is built. When either gets control of the puck with some open ice ahead of them, you start inching toward the edge of your seat. If they skate through or around the defense, you stand up to watch. This was Rev’s (29) goal today making the final score 2 – 0. Ruthie said it was a beautful goal. I really didn’t see it because in anticipation of it I stood up and just started firing pictures.]

2-18-16-60 - Copy

[OK, bring it on home.]

2-18-16-61 - Copy

2-18-16-62 - Copy

[Amazing, just like last year, the team saved their best games for the state tournament. We beat Northfield 2 – 0, the final score not as impressive as our overall play. We did everything well except for putting the puck in the net. Saturday morning, 9:00 am, we play New Prague for the consolation championship – we’ll be there!]

2-18-16-63 - Copy

[Another good all around game.]

About tomobert63

The Journey Begins Thanks for joining me! This is the follow-up to the original, “alexandriacardinals.wordpress.com,” which overwhelmed the system’s ability to handle it any more. Thus, this is “Part 2.” As the original was initially described: 10-26-07-4 “It all began in a 5,000 watt radio station in Fresno, California” . . . wait a minute, that was Ted Baxter on the Mary Tyler Moore Show! Let’s see . . . oh yeah, it all began in 2003 when retirees, i.e., old people, in Alexandria, Minnesota, who had no desire to become snow birds, went looking for mid-winter entertainment here in the frozen tundra of West Central Minnesota. We discovered girls’ high school hockey, fell in love immediately, and it remains our favorite spectator sport to this day. Initially, and for several years, reports on these games were e-mailed to those who were actually snowbirds but wanted to keep abreast of things “back home.” It was ultimately decided a blog would be more efficient, and it evolved into a personal diary of many things that attracts tens of readers on occasion. It remains a source of personal mental therapy and has yet to elicit any lawsuits. ~ The Editor, May 9, 2014 p.s. The photo border around the blog is the Cardinal girls’ hockey team after just beating Breck for the state championship in 2008. It’s of the all-tournament team. The visible Breck player on the left is Milica McMillen, then an 8th-grader – she is now an All-American for the Gophers. The Roseau player in the stocking cap I believe is Mary Loken, who went on to play for UND; and the Cardinal player on the right, No. 3, is Abby Williams, the player we blame most for making us girls’ hockey fans who went on to play for Bemidji State. *********************************************************************************** Photos contained herein are available for personal use. All you have to do is double click on any of the photos and they will become full screen size. You can then save them into your personal “My Pictures” file. They make lovely parting or hostess gifts, or holiday gifts for such as Uncle Ernie who wants to see how his grand niece is doing on the hockey team. If any are sold for personal profit, however, to, for example, the Audubon Society, National Geographic, Sven’s Home Workshop Monthly, Curling By The Numbers, or the World Wrestling Federation, I only request that you make a donation to the charitable organization of your choice. You have two hours and fifteen minutes. Pencils ready? Begin! **********************************************************************************
