Cards – 71, Sauk Rapids-Rice – 31

1-31-14-110 - Copy

And here’s the scoreboard to prove it!

1-31-14-1 - Copy

[Whazzup?]

1-31-14-2 - Copy

[When you guys came into town, did you notice the flavor-of-the-day at Culver’s? ]

1-31-14-3 - Copy

[We’ve heard the supervisor really likes cashew-caramel or raspberry swirl!  🙂  ]

1-31-14-7 - Copy

[Macy . . . and “Weakie,” among others, should recognize the “Big Norwegian,” an old mall walking acquaintance, in the background of this and other photos.]

1-31-14-8 - Copy

[Kendall shoots a 3-pointer . . . right into the “Big Norwegian’s” ear.]

1-31-14-9-1 - Copy

[Looks good?]

1-31-14-10-1 - Copy

[Let’s try another one!]

1-31-14-11 - Copy

[Here it goes!]

1-31-14-12 - Copy

[Nothing but net!]

1-31-14-13 - Copy

[Oh yeah.]

1-31-14-15 - Copy

[Brooke discusses her future with her agent.]

1-31-14-16 - Copy

[Amanda G begins a shooting sequence . . . ]

1-31-14-17 - Copy

[A one . . .]

1-31-14-18 - Copy

[And a two.  Thank you, boys, turn off the bubble machine. . . ]

1-31-14-19 - Copy

[And a free throw, to complete a 3-point play?]

1-31-14-20 - Copy

[Ooops, not unless she’s jump-shooting them?]

1-31-14-21 - Copy

[And sometimes it’s just fun to see what’s going on in the background – see anyone you know?  Hmmm, Mark Ripley, school photographer . . .]

1-31-14-22-1 - Copy

[“Baby Bruiser” to the fore . . .]

1-31-14-23-1 - Copy

[Now a good shot of Ralph (actually German) in the background.  Is that Chris Lorsung with him?]    ]

1-31-14-24 - Copy

[Meanwhile Sarah, and Kendall, keep shooting.]

1-31-14-26 - Copy

[Macy and Cheyenne]

1-31-14-27 - Copy

[Macy and Cheyenne, II]

1-31-14-28-1 - Copy

[Now that Darice is a full-time retiree . . .]

1-31-14-29 - Copy

[She’s polishing her PA skills for . . . ESPNU?]

1-31-14-30 - Copy

[It was honor your mentors night . . .   ]

1-31-14-31 - Copy

[While Darice read the names of the honorees, the team fanned out around the gymnasium delivering their “honors” . . . ]

1-31-14-32 - Copy

[Acckkkk, they’re heading in our direction.]

[I think Jaylen recognized her “golf caddy”?]

1-31-14-34 - Copy

[And now, the National Anthem.]

1-31-14-35 - Copy

[Students with instruments appear again.]

1-31-14-36 - Copy

[The opening tip . . .]

1-31-14-37 - Copy

[The Cardinals start a center . . . and 4 guards.  That’s because the City of Alexandria has always had a height restriction on its citizens.  Amanda Christianson is one of the 4 guards.  OK, she’s 5’10”, tall for a high school guard . . .   ]

1-31-14-38 - Copy

[The SRR center was listed as 6’1″.  But when she stood next to our  6’2″ Brooke, she appeared to be at least an inch taller.]

1-31-14-38-1 - Copy

[Amanda has jumped center for us the last two years.  Like the Sam Trumm (6′) era before her, she is always the shorter “center”.  I only recall Sam losing one tip . . . and Amanda doesn’t lose many.  They both played volleyball which undoubtedly improves your hops.]

1-31-14-39 - Copy

[Amanda got it.]

1-31-14-40 - Copy

[The “Karly D.”]

1-31-14-40-1 - Copy

[This is the one I e-mailed to Kohler right after the game . . . ‘cuz that’s just the kinda guy I am!  😉  ]

1-31-14-42 - Copy

[SRR tries to bring it up court against Karly and Sarah – not an easy task.]

1-31-14-44 - Copy

[Macy tracks her “man.”]

1-31-14-45 - Copy

[Sarah channels her all-state soccer goalie defensive skills.]

1-31-14-46 - Copy

[Karly demonstrates the formal dictionary meaning of: concentration.]

1-31-14-46-1 - Copy

[No.12, you are under my control from a Vulcan mind meld.]

1-31-14-47-1 - Copy

[Here, why don’t you just hand me the ball.]

1-31-14-48-1 - Copy

[Oh, don’t make it any harder than it has to be!]

1-31-14-49 - Copy

[Karly goes into stealth mode.]

1-31-14-50 - Copy

[I’ll sneak up from behind.]

1-31-14-51 - Copy

[Kendall “Bombs Away” Kohler]

1-31-14-52 - Copy

[Where’s the ball?]

1-31-14-53-1 - Copy

[Amanda C – I think she missed!]

1-31-14-54 - Copy

[But still looks good . . .]

1-31-14-55 - Copy

[Yup]

1-31-14-56-1 - Copy

[Nothing but net.]

1-31-14-57 - Copy

[As the 2nd tickles the twine.]

1-31-14-59 - Copy

[Karly and Sarah in fullcourt press.]

1-31-14-60 - Copy

[Sarah takes over the point . . . ]

1-31-14-61 - Copy

[It’s a constant run and jump job . . .]

1-31-14-62 - Copy

[Now back the other way . . .]

1-31-14-63 - Copy

[Here I come again . . .]

1-31-14-64 - Copy

[Emily 1]

1-31-14-66 - Copy

[Emily 2]

1-31-14-67-1 - Copy

[Emily 3 – a good mid-range shooter.]

1-31-14-68 - Copy

[At the half, it was clear everybody was going to get a chance to play in this game.]

1-31-14-69 - Copy

[Karly shoots . . . and the ball disappears?]

1-31-14-70 - Copy

[Oh, there it is.]

1-31-14-71 - Copy

[Karly:  Are you taking my picture?]

1-31-14-72 - Copy

[Cub Reporter:  You betcha!  🙂  ]

1-31-14-73 - Copy

[Karly in the middle of something.]

1-31-14-76 - Copy

[Young Kohler demonstrates proper block-out pre-positioning . . . either that or the control tower has just cleared her for take-off.]

1-31-14-77 - Copy

[Emily chases a loose ball.  Who loosed it, I have no idea.]

1-31-14-78 - Copy

1-31-14-79 - Copy

[Kendall on the line . . .]

1-31-14-80 - Copy

[And then hustling back on defense . . .]

1-31-14-81 - Copy

[Because you are a Kohler.]

1-31-14-82 - Copy

[Macy gets a free one . . .]

1-31-14-83 - Copy

[As a driving point guard, surprised she doesn’t get here more often . . . ]

1-31-14-84-1 - Copy

[She will, in time.]

1-31-14-85 - Copy

[Call it!]

1-31-14-86 - Copy

[A defense series at the point by Jaylen . . .]

1-31-14-87 - Copy

[Just a little thanks to her . . .]

1-31-14-88 - Copy

[For helping us monitor Kohler’s golf course class last fall.]

1-31-14-89 - Copy

[Jaylen and Amanda G contest the inbounds pass.]

1-31-14-90 - Copy

[Block out, rebounders!]

1-31-14-91 - Copy

[Sarah . .  (My goodness, that looks like our sister-in-law Janet between Sarah and the Sauk Rapids player??)]

1-31-14-94 - Copy

[and again.]

1-31-14-96 - Copy

[Ooops! ]

1-31-14-97 - Copy

[Ooops (continued)!]

1-31-14-99 - Copy

About tomobert63

The Journey Begins Thanks for joining me! This is the follow-up to the original, “alexandriacardinals.wordpress.com,” which overwhelmed the system’s ability to handle it any more. Thus, this is “Part 2.” As the original was initially described: 10-26-07-4 “It all began in a 5,000 watt radio station in Fresno, California” . . . wait a minute, that was Ted Baxter on the Mary Tyler Moore Show! Let’s see . . . oh yeah, it all began in 2003 when retirees, i.e., old people, in Alexandria, Minnesota, who had no desire to become snow birds, went looking for mid-winter entertainment here in the frozen tundra of West Central Minnesota. We discovered girls’ high school hockey, fell in love immediately, and it remains our favorite spectator sport to this day. Initially, and for several years, reports on these games were e-mailed to those who were actually snowbirds but wanted to keep abreast of things “back home.” It was ultimately decided a blog would be more efficient, and it evolved into a personal diary of many things that attracts tens of readers on occasion. It remains a source of personal mental therapy and has yet to elicit any lawsuits. ~ The Editor, May 9, 2014 p.s. The photo border around the blog is the Cardinal girls’ hockey team after just beating Breck for the state championship in 2008. It’s of the all-tournament team. The visible Breck player on the left is Milica McMillen, then an 8th-grader – she is now an All-American for the Gophers. The Roseau player in the stocking cap I believe is Mary Loken, who went on to play for UND; and the Cardinal player on the right, No. 3, is Abby Williams, the player we blame most for making us girls’ hockey fans who went on to play for Bemidji State. *********************************************************************************** Photos contained herein are available for personal use. All you have to do is double click on any of the photos and they will become full screen size. You can then save them into your personal “My Pictures” file. They make lovely parting or hostess gifts, or holiday gifts for such as Uncle Ernie who wants to see how his grand niece is doing on the hockey team. If any are sold for personal profit, however, to, for example, the Audubon Society, National Geographic, Sven’s Home Workshop Monthly, Curling By The Numbers, or the World Wrestling Federation, I only request that you make a donation to the charitable organization of your choice. You have two hours and fifteen minutes. Pencils ready? Begin! **********************************************************************************
